Mirroring hard drive Program for Windows - FAQs
Q: What is Geeksnerds Drive Cloning?
A: Geeksnerds Drive Clone Professional replicates data of hard drive or partition on another hard drive or partition. It works in the following ways:
- Hard Disk → Hard Disk
- Partition → Partition
- Partition → Hard Disk
The only requirement is that the destination hard drive or partition should be equal or greater in size than the source drive or partition.
Q: What is Drive Cloning/Imaging?
A: Drive cloning/imaging is a process of sector-by-sector copying of whole data from source hard disk drive onto the destination drive.
Q: What is partition cloning/Imaging?
A: Partition cloning/Imaging is a process of transferring data of one partition on another partition of same size or greater in size.
Q: What is partition to drive cloning?
A: In partition to drive cloning, Geeksnerds Drive Clone Professional clones the desired partition and partition table of source drive to destination drive. The cloned partition will be seen healthy on the destination drive and other partitions will remain unknown partitions.
Q: How many types of cloning Geeksnerds Drive Clone performs?
A: Geeksnerds Drive Cloning performs three types of cloning:
- Default Cloning
- Forward Cloning
- Backward Cloning
Q: What is the difference between forward cloning and backward cloning?
A: Forward Cloning: Geeksnerds Drive Cloning software starts cloning from the first sector towards the last sector of selected drive or partition.
Backward Cloning: Geeksnerds Drive Cloning software starts cloning from the last sector towards the first sector of selected drive or partition.
Q: On which type of OS does it run?
A: This product is designed for Microsoft Windows. Currently it supports and runs on the system which fulfills the requirements mentioned below:
- Windows Server 2008
- Windows Vista
- Windows XP
- Windows Server 2003
- Windows 2000
- Windows NT 4.0
Q: Which type of cloning is done by Geeksnerds Drive Clone?
A: Geeksnerds Drive Cloning software performs sector by sector cloning.
Q: What type of cloning is recommended?
A: Forward Cloning is recommended for normal drive. If the drive has bad sectors, default cloning is recommended. In default mode the software will clone the healthy area of drive first making the chances of data loss less and less.
Q: What should be done in case of bad sectors?
A: Geeksnerds Drive Cloning software supports drive having bad sectors and clones data from such drives. The user has to set the number of read retries if encountered with bad sectors. If the software detects 5 consecutive bad sectors, it will take a jump of 1 GB in case of default mode. Then it will come back to the damaged areas for image creation after reading healthy areas. During the default mode, the user can pick the forward and backward option. The software will start in forward direction if default forward mode is picked. It will read all healthy areas in the forward direction and then reads the damaged jumped areas in the backward direction.
